Its threads are treated whit chromic salts to prolong the absorption time of the suture.
Chromic Catgut is absorbed by the enzymatic reaction (phagocytosis).
A tissue reaction may be observed before organic materials are completely absorbed.
complete mass absorption is approximately in 70 days.
The thread keeps its tensile strength between 14 and 21 days.
This suture is sterilized by gamma radiation and is available in brown color.

Chromic Catgut sutures are absorbable sterile surgical sutures composed of purified connective tissue (mostly collagen) derived from the serosal layer of beef (bovine) or the submucosal fibrous layer of sheep (ovine) intestines. They are packaged in a solution of 89% isopropanol, 10% water and 1% triethanolmine. |
