    Laminated Mica or Mica products are employed in electricalengineering already since the turn of the century. Micanite is the name givento sheet material which is made up of fine mica lamellae, called "splitting’s",bonded together by a variety of bonding agents such as Shellac, epoxy, alkyd orsilicone, in order to obtain particular characteristics for specific uses.Variations can be made in the method of manufacture, the types of Mica, and thetype of quantity of bonding material used to form thick or thin, stiff orflexible products in the form of sheets, webs or ribbons and also moldedarticles.

    Commutator Mica Sheets are made of naturalmuscovite mica splitting’s bonded with a minimum amount of resins in compact,dense and rigid flat plates by means of multiple high temperature pressingprimarily for use as insulation between copper segments or bars of commutatorsused in traction motors as well as other electric motors and turbo-generators.The resin is cured for several hours at high temperature to preclude any oozingor slippage of the mica. The natural cohesive forces between the mica plateletscombined with the bonding strength of the rigid thermosetting binder makesthese plates adequately resistant to high heat and pressure encountered in thecommutators.

    These plates have high dielectricstrength, high thermal stability, good voltage endurance and excellentmechanical and electrical properties. Besides they have extremely lowcompressibility as is essential in maintaining the commutator's dimensionalstability under large centrifugal stresses in operation. Their other propertiesare smooth surfaces, uniform thickness, great resistance to crushing andexcellent machinability. Commutator mica sheets bonded with shellac resinsprovide excellent overall properties. Epoxy and alkyd yield dimensionalstability with ability to withstand extreme compression stress.

     

     

    Hot moulding mica

    Hot-Molding Mica sheets are producedfrom natural muscovite mica splitting’s bonded with a thermoplastic resinsshellac, epoxy or alkyd-vinyl by applying adequate heat and pressure. Theamount of bond content range from 18% to22% depending on type of productdemanded. The relatively high amount of bond facilitate the mica to sliprelative to each other during the molding process as necessary in assuming thedesired contour.

    These sheets are rigid at roomtemperature but soften when heated at temperature between 100° C to 140° C andcould easily be molded into practically any shape upon the application ofeither hot or cold process. With further cure, the sheets form into rigidwell-bonded structure retaining the shape of their molded forms. Molding sheetsbonded with shellac provides optimum moldability having excellent overallproperties and have been traditionally most popular, while epoxy or alkyd-vinylbonded sheets offer toughness and durability under severe mechanical stressapplications.

     

     

    Heater mica

    HEATER MICA SHEETS are produced fromnatural muscovite mica splitting’s bonded with synthetic, epoxy or siliconeresins suitable for thermal class 'B', 'F', and 'H' into a rigs sheets underhigh heat, and pressure conforming to IEC Standards371.3.3. These sheets arehard and dense and could readily be punched to any specified shape and designsproviding and excellent overall properties. They have high dielectric strength,flexural strength, and thermal stability, low moisture absorption and good arcresistance properties. They are superior product in intensity, waterproofability, incombustibility and electrical insulating properties.

     

     

     

     

    FLEXIBLE MICA SHEETSare produced from natural Muscovite mica splitting’s bondedwith polyester or silicone resins. The controlled low binder content assures athoroughly cured product in which the binder will not ooze or flow from themica structure. They possess excellent flexibility and adhesiveness to permitwinding or wrapping of the sheets at room temperature without heating. They canbe formed or bent readily to any shape and will not become brittle and stiff.

    They can be applied to unusualconfiguration without tear. They remain flexible at room temperature, rigid athigh temperature, develop increased tenacity and are fully oil resistant.Besides they do not react with copper. They have high moisture and heatresistance, high dielectric strength, excellent chemical resistance andelectrical insulating properties. They have long shelf life and thus eliminatesinventory problems normally encountered with conventional electrical insulatingproducts.
